Who is responsible for your data

Appuscholar is run by Dr. Shiv Raj Sharma, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. He decides why and how your personal data is used, which makes him the “data fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Write to contact@appuscholar.com with any question or complaint about your data. Dr. Shiv Raj Sharma reads this mailbox himself.

What we collect, and why

When you create an account for the trial, we keep:

Your password is never seen by us. Firebase Authentication, the sign-in service we use, stores it only in scrambled (hashed) form.

We collect nothing else. No advertising, no tracking tools, no selling or renting of data, ever.

What stays on your own device

Your research work stays in your own browser: your projects, documents, data files, statistics, citations, quiz answers and notes. We never receive it and cannot see it. This also means that clearing your browser data deletes that work, so use the Backup button regularly.

When you use an AI feature, the text you choose is sent straight from your device to the AI company you picked (for example Google Gemini or Groq), under your own key. That company’s own privacy terms apply to that text. When you search for papers, your search words go to the public databases the app searches (such as OpenAlex, PubMed and Crossref), and no personal details go with them.

Where your data is kept

How long we keep it

We keep your account while you use the trial. If your access ends and you do not renew it, we delete your account within 90 days, and we email you at least 48 hours before we do. You can delete your account yourself at any time (see below).

The law asks every service to keep a basic record of sign-ins and account changes for one year, for security and for investigations. These records stay with Firebase for one year after your account is deleted and are then removed. They are used for nothing else.

Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you can:

Who may join

The trial is for adults aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly accept anyone younger.

If something goes wrong

If your personal data is ever exposed through a security breach, we will tell you without delay, along with what happened and what you can do. We will also report it to the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

Changes to this notice

If we start collecting anything new, for example saving projects online so that your supervisor can see them, we will show you a new notice and ask for your consent again before it begins.

DPDP Act
